The park follows the San Marcos River, which you can view from within the park, and is filled with artificial rapids and even a nice, deep swimming hole. Rio Vista Park is a beautiful 13-acre expanse and one of the top San Marcos attractions. The dam was reopened in 2006 as a recreational park now known as Rio Vista Park. That’s when the city commissioned Recreation Engineering and Planning to save the dam by removing concrete side walls, grading banks downward, and introducing artificial rapids, among other efforts. In 1998, the Rio Vista Dam faced serious damage during a Texas flood.įor years, the dam remained quite damaged and on the brink of failure.
